This past Saturday there was a baby shower for a friend of our family. Katie took our 2 1/2 year old daughter Elizabeth to this event, her first experience at a baby shower. She was very excited that she got to go with her mom to this "big girl" event... almost as excited as Dad that he did NOT have to go. According to Katie, she thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was "full throttle" the entire time. The two girls arrived back home sometime after lunch, about the time that Elizabeth needed to go down for a nap. I took her to her room, put her in her bed, and talked with her for a while until she got sleepy. There was a part of our conversation that I'll never forget:ME: "Elizabeth, did you have fun at the baby shower?"
Elizabeth: "Yeah, Daddy, it was fun. Daddy, do you know that there were no babies at the baby shower?"
ME: "Yeah, Elizabeth, sometimes there are no babies at baby showers."
Elizabeth: "Oh, okay. Daddy, do you know that there were no showers there either?"
Try explaining to a 2 1/2 year old why there are no babies and no showers at a baby shower.
